In Memoriam: Sgt. David Enzbrenner

On Friday, December 9, 2011, Sgt. David Enzbrenner was assisting with a nuisance abatement clean-up when he was murdered in cold blood. With David's death, his community was robbed of a true public servant. Sgt. David Enzbrenner was a 24 year veteran of the Atchison Police Department, serving his community since 1987.

At 46 years old, David had built a life many of us would envy - a beautiful wife, three teenage daughters, a loving extended family, a satisfying career in law enforcement, a fulfilling life of service and spirituality, and a network of loyal friends and colleagues. And he had dreams of the years ahead.

He is irreplaceable, his sacrifice permanent. Even so, the day that David died had nothing to do with his life. We will remember David for his calming presence. He was a role model for young officers, respected by his peers. He had a full future in front of him, but left us by living up to his principles of peace and justice.

The days since David's death have been difficult for his family and friends as well as his brothers in law enforcement. There's a gap in city hall where David's office has been dark and the community is grieving.

David,we're humbled by your service and sacrifice, brother. We will spend every day trying to live up to the example you set, to honor your memory.
