ATCHISON FIRE DEPARTMENT

PROCEDURES FOR OPEN BURNING

 

TIME PERIOD

Controlled Open Burning shall be allowed twelve (12) months out of the year.

ITEMS THAT CAN BE BURNED:

The following items may be burned: yard, field & garden wastes such as grass

clippings, leaves, tree trimmings, weeds & wheat, corn, milo & forage & stubble may be

burned. Any items, which cannot properly be fitted within such a descriptive class, shall

not be permitted to be burned.

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN:

Notification shall be made to the Atchison Fire Department before any open burning is

undertaken under the provisions herein.

 

Burning must take place at least (40) feet from any building, under close supervision, &

may be conducted from dawn to dusk. In addition, burning shall be restricted to periods

when surface wind speed is not more than (15) fifteen miles per hour.

 

The Chief of the Atchison Fire Department shall have the authority to prohibit the

burning authorized for a portion of or for the total of this burning period due to drought

conditions if he/she deems that such a practice would be extremely hazardous.

Hall.
