QUALIFICATIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

All new positions for any position with the City shall meet the minimum qualifications established for that position. Each applicant shall complete a job application form. Upon offer of employment, a job related medical examination and other tests, including substance abuse screening is required when deemed necessary by the City Manager in order to determine the applicant’s qualifications for the position.

EXAMINATIONS

The determining factor for hiring employees is based upon an applicant’s qualifications as demonstrated by written applicants and/or practical experience as required by the job description. The individual departments under the guidance of the Human Resources Director determine selection processes.

TRAINING PERIOD

Each employee, following initial employment, shall satisfactorily complete a six-month training period in order to achieve full-time employment status.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

Residence shall not be a requirement for admittance to an examination. Upon selection for a position, the Department Head may suspend this requirement if the employee agrees to move within the required time period of their workstation within thirty (30) days or as departmental rules warrant. Residency is required within Atchison County, Kansas.
