Human Resources - Safety Program WORKER’S COMPENSATION
SAFETY INCENTIVE PROGRAM For several years
the City has had a safety incentive program.
This program has proven to be a great success. It is the goal of the Safety Committee to
maintain a safe and accident free work environment. It is the responsibility of each city
employee to report all accidents to their immediate supervisor. Described below is how this program
operates. Program
Outline The safety program
begins the first day of December and continues through the 30th day of
November of the following year. Each
employee is responsible for his or her own safety success. For each month the full-time employee does
not incur a goal accident, the employee accumulates $5.00 for that
month. If at the end of twelve months the employee has not had any goal
accidents they will receive their monthly goal money and an additional bonus
in the amount of $90.00. Employees
employed for four months but less than twelve months who have not had any
goal accidents will receive their monthly goal money and a bonus of $45.00.
Employees with three months or less employment without a goal accident will
only receive the monthly goal money.
Any employees leaving City employment prior to the end of the program
year (Dec. 1 to Nov. 30) will not be entitled to any Incentive Payment. Goal
Accident A goal accident is
when the accident results in lost time from work, and/or requires a visit to
the doctor/emergency room or hospital.
Also, if the accident requires future treatment it will go against the
employee’s safety goal. Added in 2009:
Another example of a goal accident is when an employee is found liable
for damage to a City vehicle or City power driven equipment. Employees will be required to fill out an
incident report when an accident occurs. Each month the
safety committee reviews accidents that have occurred the previous
month. In certain circumstances
accidents may not go against the goal.
The only instances where the safety committee has determined that the
employee’s accident would not go against goal have been: 1) When the employee has received treatment
because of poison ivy/oak/sumac; 2) Bee stings or spider bites; 3) When the employee accident is a result of
exposure to bloodborne
pathogen; and 4) When the employee was in a vehicular
accident where the employee’s medical bills were covered
by the other parties insurance company. Monthly Goal
Money For every month
that an employee remains accident-free they are credited with $5.00 for that
month. Yearly Goal
Bonus A bonus amount of
$90.00 is credited for employees who have not had any accidents for the
twelve-month program year. A bonus
amount of $45.00 is credited for employees who have not had an accident and
have been employed at least four months but less than twelve months. Safety
Committee Responsibilities The safety
committee reviews this policy on an annual basis to make any needed
corrections or alterations to this program.
On December 1st or
shortly thereafter, the safety committee convenes to review the success of
this program and to prepare the list of employees eligible for safety
incentive money for City Commission consideration. If approved, safety incentive awards are
paid through the payroll process. The City Commission reviews this program on an annual basis. If funds are available, the City Commission has the authority to approve, not approve, alter or terminate the program at their discretion. |
